Rule of the Goosefoots

Caucasian spinach, Tree Spinach, Aztec Broccoli, Fat Hen, Chard… all of them have made very happy homes for themselves in our garden this year…

Tree Spinach (Chenopodium giganteum) is quite striking with its magenta top leaves almost glowing. It tastes good too, steamed or lightly cooked.

And the Huauzontles (C. berlandieri), those Aztec broccoli, are shooting up now. We’ve just had a downpour of the first rain in weeks, too. Can’t wait to taste those flowering tops!
